Ruth Whitter, 52, a support worker at a Lancashire day centre, is preparing to swim the English Channel for charity.
She will cross from Dover to France in a relay team of six, each swimmer taking hour-long turns across roughly 22 miles of open water. She is raising money for Aspire, the spinal injuries charity.
Cllr Tom Pickup, Burnley’s county councillor and Lancashire’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, praised the effort, saying: “It’s really inspiring to see someone who spends their days supporting others taking on a huge challenge to benefit others.”
The people who work in adult social care do quietly extraordinary things for others every day. It is good to see one of them recognised, and we wish Ruth and her team the best of luck for the crossing.
